Gremio vs Palmeiras
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 7 June 2018
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
Once again, Gremio didn’t… shine offensively last weekend at Bahia, but you have to give credit to a team that wins even when not playing at their best. Maicon was lucky to open the scoring in the 11th minute (Bahia’s goalkeeper denied him from the penalty spot, but Maicon got the… rebound and sent the ball in), a goal that should have made things easier for Gremio. Truth is, they struggled, and only put the game to bed in added time, scoring a second goal on a counterattack. They created super few chances, but on the other hand, they looked good defensively. They and Cruzeiro have the best defensive record in the league, they have allowed just three goals in nine matches, and in Gremio’s case it should be noted that they have stayed consistent defensively even without their captain, Geromel, who joined Brazil’s national team some time ago. Argentine Walter Kannemann has been awesome. Arthur, Léo Moura and Luan, three key players, trained properly on Monday and Tuesday, and should return to action.
Only one team had avoided defeat in the first eight game weeks of this Série A campaign, Sao Paulo. “Thanks” to Palmeiras, no team is left unbeaten, as they triumphed over their city rivals 3-1 last weekend, despite losing 0-1 until the 55th minute. Palmeiras were desperate to bounce back after two defeats in a row in the championship. There were some bad news as well, though. Attacking midfielder Keno, a player who is… more than “important” for Palmeiras, for the way they play, got injured, and won’t be back until after the World Cup finals. As if that weren’t enough, left-back Diogo Barbosa also got injured, and won’t play in the remaining matches until the World Cup finals start.

Gremio vs Palmeiras: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Gremio, one for Palmeiras, and two draws, in the last five games between these two in Porto Alegre.
Gremio vs Palmeiras: Prediction
Gremio have struggled offensively in their last seven(!) matches, scoring very little, and creating very few chances. With Luan – most probably – back, they should look very improved. Plus, Palmeiras are not expected to… park two buses in front of their goal, like most teams do when they play against Gremio.
Gremio vs Palmeiras: Betting Tips
Gremio’s win pays 1.94. I would stay with that, finding it very hard to choose between over and under 2.5 goals.
